Do you want to buy your kids school supplies online? Here is a list of school supply essentials you can get on Amazon.

 

Sometimes it can be challenging to find all the school supplies you need in-store, (especially if you procrastinate and wait until the end of summer like I do to do back-to-school shopping.)

On the other hand, you may simply prefer to shop online for your child’s school supplies when they or going back to school, or to replenish supplies after the school year is started.

(How our kids can lose all 5 packs of pencils we get them at the beginning of the year beats me!)

Regardless of if you’re sending your kids to school, homeschooling or remote schooling, we’ve got you covered with our online list of school supplies below.

1.) Back to School Supply Bundle

 

✅ If you don’t want to buy all of your child’s school supplies individually, a school supply bundle like this is an easier option.

If there’s anything you need additionally, you can always just get the extra few items. But buying the other items in bulk can save you time and money.

2.) School Supplies Desk Organizer

 

✅ For children who have homework or who homeschool, this desk organizer can be helpful in keeping some of their school supplies organized and easier to find at home.

It can also be placed on a child’s desk in school. (Note: If kids stealing stuff is an issue, you may want to be careful with leaving stuff on their desk at school.)

 

3.) Pencils

 

 

✅ There are regular yellow #2 pencils, there are mechanical pencils, and there are stacking point/multi-point pencils.

Kids seem to have more fun with the mechanical or stacking pencils because they’re a little more exciting. They do tend to run out of lead more quickly though.

(Note that some schools are particular about the type of pencils students use in class.)

 

4.) Pens

 

✅ Generally students are encouraged to use pens with blue ink or black ink.

5.) Highlighters

 

✅ I like these highlighters because they come in a pack of different colors and they’re clickable, (so you don’t need to worry about your kids losing the caps.)

6.) Crayons

 

 

✅ Usually a 24-pack of crayons is recommended, and you can grab two 24-packs from Amazon here.

These are also non-toxic too, which is great.

Kids, especially younger kids will often use crayons for many different projects and activities throughout the school year.

7.) Colored Pencils

 

✅ These colored pencils are great because they twist and don’t need to be sharpened.

8.) Colored Markers

 

✅ You can get washable markers for kids on Amazon here.

9.) Erasers

 

 

Somehow my kids always end up using all of the eraser on top of their pencils, so I do find it necessary to buy more.

✅ There are regular erasers, cute erasers designed for kids, and cap erasers (that go on top of pencils.) I personally like the cap erasers the best because they seem like they get lost the least.

10.) Pencil Boxes

 

✅ These pencil boxes come in a 3 packs and are also stackable, which is cool.

I like giving kids something to keep their writing utensils in when they go to school so they don’t lose them and can bring them to each class.

I also recommend writing your child’s name on their pencil box (along with other supplies they have that can be labeled.)

11.) Pencil Pouch

 

If you want an alternative to a pencil box that takes up less space, you can get your child a pencil pouch.

✅ This pencil pouch can go in a 3 ring binder, so it’s easier to transport. It also comes in a variety of different colors.

12.) Kids Scissors

 

Almost every school will have your kids doing crafts and/or cut & paste activities at some point, so scissors are a must.

✅ These kids’ scissors are rated well and also work great for both right and left-handed children.

13.) Notebooks

 

 

✅ There are different types of notebooks, such as 5-subject notebooks, spiral notebooks, and composition notebooks.

Note: Sometimes teachers specify on the school supply lists which type of notebooks they want the students to have and/or specific colors that should be used.

14.) Binders

 

✅ Binders come in different sizes, such as 1 inch, 1.5 inch, 2 inch, and 3 inch.

Sometimes teachers will specify on your child’s school supply list which size(s) they should get. They may also at times request students buy a binder in a certain color.

15.) Paper

 

✅ There is college ruled or wide ruled loose leaf paper.

✅ Some kids also use printer paper or construction paper for various projects/assignments. Or they may need to use a sketchbook for art.

16.) Folders

 

 

Kids are often asked to bring folders as part of their school supplies.

✅ In many cases it is requested that they get folders in different colors.

✅ Some teachers will specifically request folders that have 3 prongs in the center.

(This allows for the middle section to function similar as a binder, holding loose leaf papers or other papers that have 3 hole punches.)

17.) Index cards

Students often are told to bring in index cards to use for studying, flash cards, or other projects.

✅ There are regular index cards and colored index cards.

18.) Dividers

✅ Dividers can be labeled and used to organize binders by subject or topic.

They have been listed on our kids’ school supply list several times.

19.) Pencil Sharpener

 

✅ This is a nice electric pencil sharpener that doubles as a pencil holder.

If you’re concerned about it being stolen from your child by other students, you may want to have them use it at their desk at home and then bring their sharpened pencils to school.

20.) Tissue Boxes

 

 

✅ Kids are often told to bring multiple tissue boxes as part of their school supply list, which are then used in the classroom(s) throughout the year.

21.) Hand Sanitizer

 

✅ Teachers often request that kids bring in hand sanitizer either for personal or shared classroom use.

Even if it’s not officially on the school supply list, it’s not a bad idea to keep hand sanitizer on hand to prevent the spread of germs.

22.) Disinfectant Wipes

 

✅ Disinfectant wipes are also often listed on school supply lists to prevent the spread of germs.

They can be used to quickly disinfect surfaces that may have been touched by dozens of students in a single day.

23.) Sticky Notes

 

 

✅ Sticky notes are a common item on school supply lists.

They can be used for a variety of projects, to remind students of notes they want to remember, and as markers for pages in books or binders.

24.) Backpack

 

✅ This is a cute girl-themed backpack, and this is a nice backpack for boys.

25.) Desk

 

Most schools will supply enough desks for all the students.

✅ If your child has homework or projects they do at home or you opt to homeschool, getting a desk for their room can be helpful.

26.) Dry Erase Board

 

 

✅ A dry erase board can be used by kids for projects, but it also can be used to help your kids with homework at home.

27.) Dry Erase Markers

 

✅ Dry erase markers are often mentioned on school supply lists, often for use on the classroom’s dry erase board, even if the child doesn’t have one.

28.) Glue or Glue Sticks

 

✅ Kids are often asked to bring glue or glue sticks to school for crafts & projects.

29.) Headphones or Earbuds

 

 

✅ Students are often asked to bring headphones or earbuds for lessons they do on a computer or another device.

30.) Ruler

 

✅ Kids often need rulers to measure things for math or other projects.

31.) Calculator

 

✅ Sometimes kids are asked to bring a calculator to use at certain times. (Of course, you want to make sure they know not to use it when it’s time for them to do math on their own.)

32.) Scientific Calculator

 

 

✅ As kids get older, it’s common for a scientific calculator to be listed on their school supply list.

The one I’ve linked is actually a better price online than the options we had when we bought one in-store.

33.) Protractor

 

✅ As math gets more advanced, kids may be asked to bring a protractor to do certain work. (I like the one I’ve linked because it comes in a set with other geometry tools.)

34.) Gallon Size Zip Bags

 

➡ I honestly haven’t figured out why our kids’ schools always had these on the supply list, but sometimes they are, so that’s why I included them.

35.) Tape

 

 

✅ Kids often use tape for crafts and other projects. It can also be helpful to have on hand if papers rip.

36.) Whiteout Correction Tape

 

This isn’t always listed on a school supply list, but I think it’s important to have on hand, especially for older kids who may be doing certain work in pen instead of pencil.

✅ I prefer this whiteout correction tape to regular whiteout because it’s easier for kids to use.

The only downside is that these can break somewhat easily if kids aren’t gentle/careful with them.

DEVICES FOR SCHOOLING

 

➡ Note: I just want to mention here a reminder that whenever we provide our children with technology, we want to be careful to monitor them online including what they can access and who they communicate with. It’s essential to set clear guidelines on how they can and cannot use technology.

This is both for the sake of protecting them from dangers online, and also so they are not getting distracted from doing their work during their school hours.

 

37.) Chromebook / Laptop

 

✅ Our kids use Chromebooks, (although thankfully for us their school automatically provides them with one.)

38.) Tablet

 

 

✅ Some parents may get their kids a tablet to use for some of their schoolwork.

 

So those are 37+ school supplies you can buy online. Making sure your child has what they need during this school year sets the stage for them to complete their work successfully.
